Choo Crew — Support

Last updated: 26 September 2026

Choo Crew is a live map of the buses, trains, ferries and aircraft moving around you right now. It is also a game: the vehicle you actually rode becomes your turf, it earns you miles for as long as you hold it, and anyone who rides it after you takes it.

Signing in

Tap Sign in in the corner and choose Sign in with Apple or Google. Either one gives you a rider profile with a colour and a face. You can read the map, open stations and watch everyone else's territory without signing in; you need an account only to claim.

How claiming works

Tap the vehicle you are riding. The app then records the ride: your location about once a second, plus whether the phone feels stopped or moving. The server compares that against the vehicle's own live position from the transit feed, and when the two clearly travelled together the claim lands with a verified tick. It usually takes a couple of minutes of real movement.

Aircraft work the same way, so start the ride while you are still on the ground — once the phone is in airplane mode it has nothing to send.

Tapping a vehicle you are nowhere near will not claim it. That is deliberate: riding is the whole game.

Frequently asked

The map is empty

Three ordinary reasons. The transit system may not be running — most bus and rail networks thin out after midnight, and the ferries are tied up at the dock overnight. You may be somewhere Choo Crew has no feed for yet; try one of the covered cities from the city picker. Or the server was asleep: it idles when nobody is watching and wakes within a few seconds of the app opening, so give it a moment and pull the map.

I can't claim from home

Correct, and intended. A claim has to be earned by being on board. If you tap a train across town, Choo Crew turns the tap down rather than handing you territory you didn't ride for.

How do I delete my account?

Settings → Delete account. It removes your sign-in account, every ride recording and location trace, and your wallet. Your rider profile stays on as an anonymous "Departed rider" so the standings and the record of who took what from whom still make sense, and any territory you were holding decays away within a week. It cannot be undone.

Can I change my display name?

Not in this version. Your name comes from the account you signed in with. Renaming is on the list.

Why does it ask for location and motion?

Only to prove you rode the vehicle. Location is requested as "While Using the App" — never "Always" — and a recording that starts while the app is open keeps going with the phone in your pocket until the ride ends. Raw accelerometer readings never leave your phone. The privacy policy has the detail.

Reporting a problem

If something is wrong, the useful details are: which city, which vehicle or line, roughly what time, and what you expected instead. Screenshots help a lot.
